Don't buy from this sinking ship November 18, 2008 I purchased a Norcent camera the wouldn't operate after one week. I returned the camera in August (its now November) and haven't received a replacement. Cannot reach the company via phone (mailbox is full) or e-mail (error undeliverable). Go to their website and try to reach them for yourself. Company must be out of business. Don't buy their unsupported products.
Good Camera at a great price October 29, 2008 The Norcent DCS-1050 was a great purchase for $130. You get up to 10 MP, it is easy to navigate the options and is small enough to easily carry with you. Comes with a decent battery that lasts long enough to take alot of pictures even with the flash on and comes with its own carry case that can fit on your belt. Picture quality is good. The only issue is that it is fair in low light. Some of it is that I have to learn to use the different features like low light setting that will help but still could be better.
Overall value for the money is that this cannot be beat for a nice camera for the family. Great deal go buy it.
Norcent - Unknown name, outstanding product. September 7, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have now owned this camera for almost six months, so I suppose it is about time to give it a fair shake at a review.
I was skeptical at the brand, and even more so at the cost. For right around $100, I was certain I'd have a flimsy, sensitive, noisy, featureless piece of crap that I'd have to replace after a while.
I've since been shocked out of skepticism, and can safely give this camera five stars.
Pros:
- Size! Tiny. Light. You forget you have it. - Screen size! 3" screen is a joy to use. - Features! Packed full. I could begin to list, but there are too many. Presets are plentiful (and actually useful) some manual mode settings, light sensor, face detection, alignment grid, audio recording, accepts up to 8GB SDHC cards (confirmed this with a friendly email from Norcent themselves... - 3X optical zoom on a camera this size? Huzzah! - Well built! Metal case! - Battery life! I'm not sure what people were doing with their cameras to drain the battery life to have them complain, but I've taken over 300 pictures with flash and it still wasn't finished. I only drained it by half using the movie function for all 30 minutes (on a 2GB SD card.) - Carrying case! Actually a decent accessory.
Cons:
- Auto-focus... Geh, I hate it, but it is a fact on almost all Ultra-compacts. It is far better than most cameras though. At least it tries. - Tripod mount location... waaaaay on the edge instead of the center on the bottom. Makes for wobbly shots... - No charging battery in-camera... probably due to its size. Forgivable.
Overall:
I have taken this camera on quite a few excursions, music shows, walks and day trips. It has not failed me once.
Norcent as a company was moving at the time I tried calling them months ago, but I finally got through to someone, and my question was that of many: What about a replacement battery? They explained that after shipping a battery would cost about $20 and they'd be more than happy to send one. They are not planning on discontinuing the form factor of the battery any time soon because it has performed beyond their expectations.
They also emailed me almost immediately when I had a question about high-capacity SD memory cards (SDHC). They said the camera was good up to 8GB, but that they hadn't tested anything higher than that.
I have purchased two others of these for gifts in my family and they also are completely satisfied with them.
Spend-thrift bargain hunters rejoice: Your camera has come.

Great camera for a good price! August 28, 2008 This camera surprises me. The pictures came out really clear. Definitely worth buying at this low price.
Worth the price July 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought it for 80 bucks and its worth it for sure. Its 10mp which doesnt really really matter and what matters more is that it takes clear pictures. The quality is good and the battery lifetime is also good. It has a li ion battery which I prefer over the AA's. It is definitely not superior to a canon but if you are into non serious photography and want to click some decent pictures then this is the camera for you.
