Great with XP December 31, 2008 Took a star off because I could not get this to work with an ME computer at all. Finally tried with XP and it went like a charm. Took me a while to set the computer to work but that was mostly my lack of computer skill. If you have any such skill at all should have no trouble. It does protrude; guess that is unavoidable with such a device. Using it from bed to living room in a 1300 sq ft apartment.
Very well behaved December 28, 2008 This is a great deal for the price. It's not moody or high-maintenance. The only problem I had with it was the included software (for Windows). I needed (or maybe only thought I needed) to load the software to get this thing started, but once I was connected, I switched to the built-in Windows Wireless Configuration Utility, and it's been a piece of cake ever since.
I seldom lose my connection, and when I do, it's probably because of my ISP or my cheap router. I don't think it's because of the adapter, because the failures with that adapter aren't any more frequent than the ones I have on a different computer with a different type of adapter.
Unfortunately, I don't remember whether or not this came with a short USB extension cord. (I have one, but I think it came with a different USB adapter.) If you are going to use this with a laptop, I do recommend that you put this on an extension cord; otherwise, depending on how you hold your laptop and where your USB ports are, the adapter can get bent or even be knocked loose.
Decent Wireless Adapter December 26, 2008 This wireless adapter is simple to use, easy to hook up (just plug in), and provides a great service point. I would recommend it!
1 out of 3 worked December 10, 2008 Of the three I've bought only one lasted more than a few months. I don't know what happens to them but they just quit working. First they quit until you unplug it and plug it back in so Windows can find it again. After a while that doesn't fix it either.
The software is terrible. It quickly leaves you and your computer confused as to what is in control of the device,or rather not in control.
Connectivity, when it does work, is erratic. Measures to mitigate what little interference I had was fruitless.
You get what you pay for.... October 30, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This wireless adapter isn't horrible, but it isn't terrific either. I do not know if it had to do with my wireless Comcast connection (which everyone knows is awesome quality) or with the usb adapter, but I was losing signal every 2-5 minutes and having to reboot my labtop. On top of that, this adapter is somewhat flimsy. It is so long that it is hard not to have it rest against something when on the couch or in bed and this thing has become slightly bent. Perhaps due to this, the whole case came apart into pieces, after a week of having it, and exposed the microchip inside. I had to put it all back together and so far it has successfully stayed that way.
All of that being said, within the past week the USB adapter hasn't been working all that badly. I have been using it on a level surface and have been trying not to strain my bandwidth usage.
I think with a pricier product you will not have as much hassle, but if you casually use your labtop on level surfaces then this product is satisfactory.
