One of my favorite camera accessories July 27, 2010 Lau Lau Photography This has got to be some of the best money I've spent on camera gear. I use two bodies and prior to this I was always getting tangled up in the straps or leaving one body behind as I moved around the event. Now I always have both cameras securely with me. Plus they are held much more comfortably, the ease of bringing the camera to my eye is much improved, and there is never a strap in front of the viewfinder as was regularly the case with my old camera straps.
The one caveat with these is that of course the attachment point uses up the tripod screw hole on your camera. If you use a tripod a lot this may be an issue for you, so keep that in mind. I hardly ever use my tripod and when I do I don't need my strap (the camera's on a tripod...) so this is a non-issue for me, but I thought it would be worth mentioning as I'm sure for some people it will matter.
If you are on the fence with these just buy them, you won't regret it. If you only use one camera I highly recommend looking into one of their models of single camera straps. These just plain rock.
Must have July 13, 2010 halemackay I had two loaded cameras on for 9 hours and not once did I have a pain in my shoulders. Brilliant. You look like a SWAT team member, but some people might enjoy that.
Black Rapid Double Strap - A Must Have ! June 26, 2010 Ravenhurst 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Do you remember the last time you got strangled by your camera strap? Or ended up with badly chafed skin because the strap worked deep into the side of your neck?
I have tons of painful memories like these, not to mention constant discomfort because of trying to carry two cameras at the same time while walking and shooting and climbing stairs and negotiating tight corners.
Enter the Black Rapid Double Strap!
A gift from God!
Suddenly, there's no strain and no chafing and no groaning and moaning and feeling tied up in knots.
This double strap does a marvelous job of distributing weight, keeping the cameras out of the way but, at the same time, ready to shoot, and leaving you plenty of room to breath. Now when I go out, I put on the Black Rapid right out of the gate. I carry the cameras in a backpack and when time comes for the shoot, I just bring them out, hook 'em up, and I am ready to go. I've used the Double Strap with a Sony DSC-F828, a Canon PowerShot SX10 IS, an Olympus E-620, and a Nikon 5000D. Total satisfaction, every time.
Whether you are a professional, an educated amateur (like me) or just working on improving your logistics and "battle readiness" -- and you routinely carry two cameras -- this is a piece of kit you CANNOT do without. Do yourself a favor and order one now.
Some people I talked to found the price tag a bit steep. Maybe it is. In the end though, and once you experience the comfort and reducing your frustration to the very low levels, the price becomes extremely competitive.
What can I say? Black Rapid Double Strap. Don't leave home without it!
PS: You can use the Double Strap to carry ONE camera only with equal ease.
Extremely comfy June 17, 2010 Robert Fately (Van Nuys, CA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I already own a Black Rapid RS-5 strap, which I got a few months back and have liked infinitely more than any of the traditional camera straps I have owned before, and found myself about to work an event where I would be using two bodies. I know I could have gotten an RS-4 and a coupler, but looking at the photos it seemed to me that the angles of the shoulder straps on the double strap would make for a more comfortable fit.
And I was right. I worked 6+ hours with somewhat heavy glass - 70-200 f2.8 and 24-70 f2.8 lenses and have to say that while my feet ached from running all over the place my back and shoulders were in perfect shape (such as they could be, anyway). I am very glad I made the decision to get this dual strap - between the two bodies hanging at my hips and a Think Tank Speed Freak waist bag positioned facing front to hold additional gear I was able to maneuver and work without any hindrances or discomfort. Highly recommended!
Best Solution for two cameras June 2, 2010 Richard J. Cirminello 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you're a two camera slinger like I am, this double strap is perfect.
I have tried several ways of carrying two cameras outdoors and on location and either nearly strangled myself by criss-crossing single straps across my chest (which inevitably tangled around my neck) or worried that the one camera would slip off my shoulder while I shot with the other.
This strap really does the job right. When you're on the move it leaves both your hands free to move equipment, hug your model, or grab a martini, knowing all the while that your cameras are safely at your sides and read to be used in an instant.
At the end of one four hour out door shoot using two independent 'normal' camera straps, my neck was sore and my shoulders cramped from keeping them hunched in order to prevent the cameras from slipping off.
In contrast, I recently wore this double strap on an outdoor model/photographer event that lasted two days and took place on a beach one day and in some grassy country fields the next.
After two days of walking and shooting for @ 6 hours each, I felt no fatigue, wasn't irritated by the straps at all, and felt well balanced the whole time. In addition to the double strap, I also wore a Hoodman around my neck and a Lowpro Slingshot 200 on my back, and never got tangled up or strangled once.
This is definitely the most comfortable strap I have ever worn.
One note of caution:
If you plan on shooting from low angles, make sure that the camera you're not using isn't dragging on the floor, or worse, through the sand at the beach!
This wasn't a problem after I raised the straps a little bit and there was still plenty of slack to grab each camera quickly and pull it to my eye.
Because the straps have hooks on them, and this goes for the Black Rapid single straps too, you can use some tripod release plates instead of the included Fasten-R2s, if switching between your strap and your tripod quickly is a concern.
I used mine with Manfrotto 200PL-14s; these plates have a metal loop on the bottom for screwing them into the camera body and those loops are big and strong enough for hanging on the Black Rapid straps.
