4 out of 5 stars Very good lens   October 26, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

I recently purchased Sigma 10-20mm lens for my Nikon D300. I was able to 'play' with it a couple of times and it's just great ! Colors are just amazing throughout the entire picture even without using filters ...

I'm simply happy with that purchase.

Ivan

5 out of 5 stars Great lens, period.   September 24, 2008

Just got the Sigma 10-20 lens for Nikon and using it on a D80.
It is loads of fun to use.

On the wide end, the extra 2mm difference between 10mm and 12mm maximum width as found on the Nikon or Tokina is truly remarkable. If you are going to go wide, go as wide as you can and get this lens.

Combined with the zoomed end, it is a very versatile instrument and will likely see more time attached to my camera than the 18-135 kit lens.

Contrary to rumors commonly circulating on the internet which made me think twice about getting this lens, upon some use I have found these rumors unfounded and have encountered no problems. Here are my findings to debuke the rumors you will see around:

The lens caps are just fine, the front one being identical to a Nikon design and well made, the rear one snugly fitting, (maybe a bit too tight). Don't waste your money on replacement lens caps as others have claimed to have done until you have seen these.

Contrary to many people's worries, the addition of a single 77mm Tiffen clear UV filter as sold by Amazon creates NO vignetting. According to the lens instructions you should not add a second filter, as THIS may cause vignetting. Personally I do not stack filters anyway. Don't believe the vignetting hype, it 'aint there.

Contruction is robust and the lens feels like a tank. The controls operate smoothly, with confidence and precision. There is no creep.

The packaging is fine. The enclosed carrying case is well made to a rectangular shape and has interior padding. Unlike the sueded bags that come with a Nikon lens, Sigma put a lot of attention into making a protective case worthy of this lens. Has a belt strap, too, so makes a handy belt case for carrying other items.

The warranty is a 1 year Sigma international plus 3 additional years Sigma USA warranty.

Overall I am very excited about tbis product and look forward to having fun. Highly recommended for everyone.

5 out of 5 stars Great Lens   September 11, 2008

The amount of angle you get from this lens will cause you to look at things different. I had a difficult time framing, however after getting use to the wide angle, you can expect nothing but sharp, well-focused photos. I've had the lens for 3 months and have lots of fun without experiencing any problems. By the way - the 10mm is really nice!

4 out of 5 stars Excellent bang for the buck   September 3, 2008

Excellent optical performance for the money you pay. Build quality is very good, solid and heavy. I recommend this lens if you're on a budget. Also, its the only one so far with built-in motor (a must for D40, D40x and D60 owners).

4 out of 5 stars A bit soft on the left side   August 29, 2008
The build quality is good and it focuses fast. It's a fun lens to shoot with. I'm happy with the center sharpness but my only gripe is that under certain conditions the photos turn out noticeably soft on the left side.
