Help!!! July 27, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've gone to Panasonic's site, downloaded the firmware update, but there are no instructions on how to do it???!!! My computer will not open the download. The camera doesn't recognize the download... what????
Fantastic camera, btw. Bought it for my in-laws...
A workhorse and a great buy! July 26, 2008 For those of us interested in semi compact cameras with wide angle lens and big zooms, this camera is a dream come true!
It came down to either Canon SX100 or Panasonic DMC-TZ4 for me, as I was unimpressed by the price and lack of zoom on the best of ultra compact cameras: Canon SD770/790/870.
As far as SX100 vs TZ4 goes:
SX100 makes a little better quality pictures, has full manual controls, and has better noise reduction processor. It suffers from traumatic flash recycle time (10 sec +).
TZ4 has wide angle lens, compactness, superior iA mode (auto mode), much better LCD, simpler controls, capability to zoom during movies, 16:9 movie mode, and a world class Leica lens. It suffers from the aggressive, inferior Venus IV noise reduction processor.
Be sure to download the latest firmware update (ver 1.2) from Panasonic--it addresses the autofocus issue at the long end.
In the end, the wide angle capability and the fact that TZ4 lens (not the processor) is the best in compact cameras tipped me over to TZ4, and I am very happy! I'd highly recommend TZ4.
Great Camera July 25, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm very happy with this camera. It was the most megapixels and zoom that I could find for this price. My pictures have come out great and it is easy to use.
Panasonic TZ4S July 18, 2008 4 out of 10 found this review helpful
I own a Panasonic LZ3 5MP far superior to the TZ4S. So I thought I would upgrade to 8MP and 10optical zoom instead of the 6X optical zoom. I will definitely return this camera. Ugh! Like the earlier reviewer said great stats poor camera. Controls are a little sharp with rough edges for starters. Secondly, the offset placement of the lens leaves no room to place your fingers to steady the camera. Forget the other reviews and this camera as it is very poor. Leica lens you say.. if you have to put your fingers over it to steady camera where is the rub...
Great Point & Shoot without loosing quality. June 17, 2008 I previously had a much larger Fuji that seemed to always take blurry pics. I wanted to keep the amount of zoom and have a much more compact camera and get a perfect picture quality that my Fuji lacked. I've only had this camera one week but have taken many different pics in many different lighting/places. These include baseball game, restaurants, work/office, home (& others' homes) and just driving down the road. I have to say this totally meets my requirements for easy to use and still GREAT quality photos. I would definitely recommend this for someone looking for the same in a compact package. I did note this is heavier than it looks (not too heavy) but I'm sure that is b/c the good quality parts. Buy this camera!!
