 Great Camera with a Leica Lens December 27, 2008

I am a professional photographer, but sometimes it is a pain carrying around an SLR. I chose this camera for the Leica lens (considered among the best optics), and the 10X optical zoom mainly, but it has many other features that I was very impressed with. The camera has a lot of extra features, such as face detection Auto Focusing that works very well. Also the intelligent Auto feature works great and you don't have to adjust anything on the camera to get a great photograph. The video mode is also very useful and impressive, allowing 15 min of video at a time at the highest resolution (2 megapixel at 16:9 ratio) until your card is full. I have an 8gb card and could do videos until the battery runs out. The best thing about this camera is that it works best on automatic, with great exposure, white balance, and fill flash. The only negative thing I have to say about the camera is to be careful of getting your finger in the way of the flash as it is next to the grip. Other than that, this is a great camera and I am very happy with the purchase.
Great camera for this average guy December 25, 2008
I'm not a camera expert, just the dad of a 5 year old that wants to capture great memories. It's easy to use, compact, and takes great pictures. The processor and it's capabilities is amazing - from automatically detecting light levels so you don't get dark photos (I just took a great picture of my son, in the dark, in bed sleeping) to finding faces the picture and focusing on them correctly. It also has a great feature allowing the user to take continuous photos with very little delay.

I bought this camera looking for something simple. I sell on eBay and just wanted something easy that took good pics, especially close ups and inside. In the iA mode it does not take good pics inside. In fact, I have tried playing with the settings but still no luck. Many of my pics have a red tint. I have tried different lighting conditions too. Inside, in my experience only, it works best depending on the flash. That being said it leaves shadows on my ebay items and yes, I try using stand alone lighting. I will say the image stabilization is wonderful! That's why I bumped it up to 4 stars as opposed to 3. To use the macro mode place the camera close to the object and try not to use the zoom. Also, outside it takes nice, sharp pics. In my totally uneducated opinion I would suggest someone looking for a camera to take a lot of indoor pics to try something else. This camera is nice if you're mainly taking outside pics. One really cool feature of this camera is the ability to zoom while taking video. I do believe the value for what I paid was good ($160) and Amazon shipped it quickly although they should have put some filler in the shipping box so the box inside didn't bounce around. I've only had it a few days and if I figure out maybe I'm doing something wrong or find settings that correct the "red" problem I will certainly come back and update.
Great Point and shoot December 12, 2008
This camera is fantastic i have been using it for 10 days now and the photos have come out great.
In many different conditions (snow, rain, blue skies, night mode or movement) the Ia setting has worked very well the face recognition is allso very good.
The best thing of the camera off course the 10x zoom fitted in such a small camera.
Great Camera, Wish Date was Auto Printed December 7, 2008
I didn't use the camera extensively, like on a trip, but I think it is a great a camera, my only take on it is that it doesn't have the time and date automatically printed on the pictures, I had to spend sometime to find how to do it, the camera provides a way to add them after you take pix but you have to make a reduced resolution copy of the original for that purpose, I used a settled on a freeware IrfanView. I liked being to zoom during taking videos. I also liked the quality of the few pictures I took at night. In general, it is a great camera.
