Good December 18, 2008 It takes at least 1 minute, or more some times, starting when powered on. Excellent graphics. The spanish language speaker reads textually the street names, so you never understand what they say. Maybe good for people who dosen't understand English. Easy to use, very frendly menus. Good traffic advises.
Nice features for the price December 17, 2008 I'm very satisfied with this GPS. The traffic feature has helped me on several occasions although it's best when used in conjunction with radio traffic reports. (Sometimes it says that traffic is stopped but the radio reveals only minor delays.) The mounting arm broke after only a few uses. (It still holds the GPS but cannot be removed without some fiddling with it.) My only other complaint is that it takes some time to recalculate the route or give turn-by-turn directions. I paid $160 for a re-furb and believe it is well worth the money.
Not my first choice for a GPS December 15, 2008 Looking for a newer model to replace our Magellan, the lifetime traffic was the reason we purchased this unit. It does have traffic updates which is good, but the screen is much more difficult to see during the daylight hours (when most of our driving is done). It is very slow to acquire satellites when it's first turned on and entering new addresses is kludgy compared to the simple straight forward Magellan interface. Especially since it does not speak the characters when you touch them, forcing you to pay strict attention when you keystroke in new addresses. It does multiple stop routing a bit better then magellan, and it has traffic. Also the window mount, although slick and ergonomic, does vibrate quite a bit on bumpy roads, something the Magellan mount doesn't suffer from.
Good enough but update with bugs? December 6, 2008 I bought this back in late 2006, early 2007 and at first I was very happy with it. It loaded fast, I liked the visual directions and it took me to where I needed to go. Then recently I started to get frustrated with it. I did the update and street names where somewhat off in terms of pronouncement. It would say Saint instead of St, for certain locations but then on my return trip say it correctly. It also wasn't as fast to realize when I was in the wrong lane as it's suppose to quickly recalculate prior to me missing the exit. That feature never worked as swiftly as expected. Also watch out for the "fastest" route feature. It uses the speed limit of streets rather than calculating timing based on short cuts. I eventually switched it to "shortest route" and it was more appropriate. I recently upgraded to the new model from Navigon because I like their lifetime traffic notification and again the visual setup of directions. Their features need some tweaking but still the best GSP models I have found. I use to have Magellan but I was hardly satisfied with it because it would always freeze on me. Good luck!
Good GPS for price December 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a good gps for the money. It is very fast to lock on to a new location. The spoken street names are very helpful and the pronunciation is OK. The unit seems very well made. Operation is very intuitive after a quick reading of the manual, which is clear and easy to use. The window mount is easy to install and remove and I take it off every time I park the car. The screen is clear and provides info on street name, direction, speed and elevation which are helpful. Routing is OK but does not always take the best route. There are several routing options and they can have a big impact on the routing. On the down side: the maps seem rather dated, there is a fair amount of vibration in the window mount, the printed info on the screen is very small and hard to read, you have to hold the on/off button for about 15 seconds.
